Who are We
How Cabanco began
Cabanco was founded by friends Tom Wallis and John Jo Clare, whose work began in traditional boatbuilding. Over the years their work expanded into yurts, roundhouses, traditional timber framing, and a dedicated joinery workshop that helped shape the foundations of what Cabanco is today. Through every project, one belief remained constant: Well-made structures should be available to more people, not only to builders and specialists. Cabanco grew from that belief.

Our design philosophy

A cabin should feel good to build and good to be in.

We understand that the conventional building process can feel overwhelming to most people. Small decisions stack up, costs escalate, and the process loses its sense of direction.

Cabanco is our response: a system that reduces complexity rather than adding to it.

Through years of creating small, well-crafted structures, we’ve learnt where complexity tends to appear and how to remove it. The system we’ve developed simplifies key decisions, and creates a build experience that feels clear for first-time builders and reassuringly efficient for those with more experience.

We focus on natural materials, thoughtful proportions, and a modular system that removes unnecessary complications. The structure is designed to be intuitive. The experience is designed to feel steady and achievable.

A well-made building does not need to be complicated.
